The Special Response Battalion (SRB-7) arrested a drug trafficker and seized 19,845 Yaba pills worth approximately BDT 60 lakh disguised inside court files during an operation on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Sitakunda, Chattogram.
The suspect, identified as Md. Shahidul Islam (42), son of Ali Mia from Durgapura in Batiaghata Upazila, Khulna district, was apprehended on Wednesday morning during a targeted highway check. According to an SRB press release issued on Thursday (September 24, 2026), law enforcement established a temporary checkpoint in front of Mohiuddin Marine Engine Store in the Lalbagh area of Bhatiari Union following a secret tip-off. Upon searching a Dhaka-bound Starline Paribahan bus, SRB personnel detained Shahidul and recovered the contraband hidden inside two ash-colored court files wrapped in poly-zipper packets and adhesive tape. The seized Yaba pills carry an estimated market value of BDT 59,54,000. Assistant Director (Media) of SRB-7 Chattogram, A. R. A. Muzaffar Hossain, stated that Shahidul had been purchasing Yaba in Chattogram for resale at higher prices in Dhaka and other districts. The suspect and recovered contraband have been transferred to Sitakunda Police Station for further legal proceedings.
