Students at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) brought out a protest rally on Friday rejecting the official joining of newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam.
The demonstration commenced following Friday prayers outside the university's Teacher-Student Center (TSC). Marching through major campus roads, students chanted slogans demanding the reinstatement of former Vice-Chancellor Professor Sayem ("We want Sayem Sir back as VC"). The rally concluded at the central Shahid Minar premises, where student leaders announced their firm opposition to the new appointment and outlined future protest plans, including campus wall graffiti.
The agitation follows Professor Dr. Sheikh Shariful Alam's submission of his written joining letter to the President and the Secretary of the Ministry of Education on Thursday without physically appearing on campus. Student representatives emphasized that university teachers have already announced a full work abstention starting Sunday, affirming that the campus community will not accept the new VC under any circumstances.
