Police personnel monitoring traffic and security conditions in Mirpur following day-long garment worker protests.

Capital city Dhaka’s Mirpur area remained tense throughout Saturday, October 31, 2026, as garment workers took to the streets demanding a minimum monthly wage of ৳30,000, causing widespread traffic disruption and commercial vandalism.

The protest began around 10:30 AM when workers set up road blockades across key intersections, including Mirpur-10 and Mirpur-11, completely halting vehicle movement. Around 2:05 PM, violent clashes erupted near the Mazar area in Mirpur-1 under Shah Ali Police Station between security guards of Himalay Garments and approximately 120 to 150 protesting workers. Following the clash, protesters vandalized Himalay Garments and the adjacent Baghdad Shopping Complex.

Although demonstrators dispersed from Mirpur-10 roundabout by 2:30 PM, severe traffic congestion persisted across Mirpur and surrounding arterial routes throughout the day. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP Mirpur Division, Mohammad Naser Rikabder, stated that police are actively examining CCTV footage from the affected market and factory areas to identify and take strict legal action against those involved in the destruction of property.
