The gazette was issued on Saturday, October 31, 2026, signed by Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed. The notification was published in accordance with Clause 4 of Article 39 of the Representation of the People Order (RPO), 1972 (President’s Order No. 155 of 1972). In the by-election held on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Mirza Faysal Amin—the younger brother of President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir—won by a wide margin, securing 2,27,917 votes under the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol. His nearest competitor, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Delawar Hosen representing the 11-party alliance, received 96,513 votes under the 'Scales' symbol, yielding a victory margin of 1,31,336 votes with a 64.81% voter turnout.

The Thakurgaon-1 seat (comprising Thakurgaon Sadar, Ruhia, and Bhulli upazilas) fell vacant after former BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who was elected in the 13th National Parliamentary Election on February 12, resigned upon his election as the 23rd President of Bangladesh. Following the gazette publication, the Parliament Secretariat has initiated arrangements for the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected MP.
