Nazma Akter, President of the Sammilitot Garments Shromik Federation, has warned that ongoing violence and vandalism during garment worker protests are causing international buyers to turn away from Bangladesh and shift apparel manufacturing orders to competitor nations like India.
Addressing a press conference held at Shrom Bhaban (Labour Building) in Dhaka on Monday morning, November 2, 2026, Nazma Akter emphasized that external agitators and aggrieved individuals are infiltrating labor demonstrations to vandalize factories and cause chaos under the pretext of non-payment of wages or factory closures. She urged garment workers to act responsibly to protect their own livelihoods, calling on them to submit their legitimate demands in writing through systematic and peaceful channels rather than engaging in destructive clashes.

Senior labor leaders—including Minimum Wage Board worker representative Babul Akhter, Sultana Begum, Lovely Yasmin, Khaliquzzaman Lipu, and Sohel Rana—were also present. The leaders noted that many factory owners maintain political affiliations, making labor rights movements vulnerable to political diversion. They warned that if buyer confidence breaks and order diversion continues, workers will face severe employment crises and structural job losses.
