The government is actively working to reopen the suspended labor market in Malaysia through a completely transparent process, prioritizing it as a matter of utmost importance. Several ministerial-level meetings have already been held between the two countries to address this issue.
Additionally, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman raised the matter during bilateral discussions with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and King Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar during his maiden foreign tour.
On Wednesday, former members of the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) submitted a memorandum to Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary Md. Mokhtar Ahmed at the ministry's conference room, outlining their demands regarding worker migration to Malaysia.
During the submission, former BAIRA representatives placed specific demands for reopening the Malaysian market. These included granting equal opportunities to all valid and eligible recruiting agencies—including the listed 312 agencies—eliminating syndicates and monopolies, significantly reducing migration costs, ensuring total transparency in the recruitment process, opening all eligible medical centers, and launching a one-stop service via BOESL.
Expatriates' Welfare Secretary Md. Mokhtar Ahmed attentively listened to the demands presented by the BAIRA delegates. He assured them that their rational demands would be taken seriously and submitted to higher authorities for review.
The Secretary stated that the process of reopening the Malaysian labor market is currently underway. However, he cautioned everyone to remain vigilant so that no middlemen or intermediaries can exploit the situation for personal gain. He emphasized that the ministry maintains a strict stance on protecting ordinary workers from brokers and fraudulent syndicates. As part of these measures, mobile courts have already taken action against illegal activities, resulting in the sealing of the office of "Triple A Overseas," the imposition of fines, and the seizure of three boxes of passports.
He further noted that the precise administrative procedures governing how manpower export to Malaysia will resume are currently being finalized. Official details and confirmed guidelines will be formally announced by the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment through a notification in due course.
