Following the recent flash procession staged by activists of the banned Awami League and its associated bodies, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Tanvir Ahmed has been removed from his post. This follows the prior removal of the Gulshan Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC).
The decision was announced on Wednesday (September 16) through an official order signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed. He has been instructed to report to the DMP Headquarters after handing over his responsibilities to the next senior official.
The official directive stated that Gulshan Division DC M. Tanvir Ahmed has been attached to the DMP Headquarters for administrative reasons until further notice. Earlier the same day, another order signed by the DMP Commissioner removed Gulshan Model Police Station OC Md. Daud Hossain, attaching him to the central reserve office of the DMP Headquarters and Administration Division.
The disciplinary actions stem from an incident on Friday (September 11) at around 11:45 AM, when activists of the banned political entity and its affiliates brought out a sudden procession near KFC on Road No. 3 in Gulshan. As police attempted to disperse the gathering, attackers hurled cocktails at law enforcement personnel. Police arrested two suspects red-handed and recovered five cocktails from the scene. Subsequent crackdown operations have led to the arrest of at least 75 individuals in connection with the incident.
