Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for rapid global emission reductions and enhanced global support for climate-vulnerable countries to tackle the devastating impacts of rising sea levels. Speaking at a high-level meeting on the margins of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Prime Minister emphasized that coping with the severe consequences of rising sea levels is beyond the capacity of climate-vulnerable nations like Bangladesh alone, requiring international assistance and cooperation. He noted that the ocean reacts to every ton of carbon emitted by the world, and adaptation measures alone are insufficient to counter these effects. Emphasizing that Bangladesh is an active delta interwoven with hundreds of rivers, the Prime Minister urged world leaders to take concerted global actions to ensure a safer and more sustainable future for coming generations.
