Police have filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act over a procession staged by the banned organizations Awami League, Chhatra League, and Swechchhasebak League in Kotchandpur, Jhenaidah, naming ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the prime accused. The case lists 52 named individuals along with an additional 100 to 120 unidentified suspects. Police have arrested five people in connection with the incident.
The case was filed on Monday afternoon (September 21) by SI Mujahidul Islam of Kotchandpur Police Station. The accused include Sheikh Hasina, district Chhatra League leaders, and various leaders and activists of the Kotchandpur upazila Awami League and its affiliated organizations.
Kotchandpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mehedi Hasan confirmed the matter on Tuesday night (September 22). He stated that following the seizure of evidence from the rally held by banned student and volunteer wings in Kotchandpur, SI Mujahidul Islam filed the anti-terrorism case naming Sheikh Hasina as the primary accused. Police launched subsequent raids and arrested five individuals, while operations to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing.
According to police, early Monday morning (September 21), leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League held a procession alongside several others in the College Bus Stand area along the Kaliganj-Jibonnagar road in Kotchandpur town. Upon receiving the information, police quickly rushed to the scene and dispersed the participants, seizing eight wooden sticks from the location, which were recorded as case evidence.
Notably, police stated that a video circulating on social media on Monday morning showed about 15 to 20 people, including former Kotchandpur Upazila Chhatra League President Sheikh Shahin, marching with a banner.
