National Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed called for freeing the country's sports arena from political influence to protect the youth from drugs and terrorism.
Speaking as the chief guest on Saturday night at a reception organized by the central committee of the Mohammedan Supporters Team at the Dhaka Club, the Speaker reminisced about his playing days in 1967 and the historic popularity of Mohammedan Sporting Club. He expressed concern that the direct entry of politics into sports following 1971 gradually diminished the quality of domestic games and reduced the vibrancy of Dhaka's club football.
The event, conducted by Mohammedan Supporters Team General Secretary FM Rafiquddin, featured speeches by State Minister for Railways, Roads and Highways Habibur Rashid Habib, MP and advisory committee member secretary Khairul Kabir Khokon, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md. Abdus Salam, and Supporters Team President SM Alamgir Abul, alongside the screening of a documentary and the presentation of a crest to the Speaker.
