The Special Response Battalion (SRB-3) has arrested two key operatives of an online fraud syndicate that staged fake kidnappings and extorted money from distraught families by harvesting contact details from Facebook missing person posts without ever holding actual victims.
The arrestees have been identified as the mastermind Md. Faisal Ahmed (31) and his accomplice Md. Al-Amin (33). They were apprehended during separate raids conducted in Dhaka's Jatrabari and Demra areas, along with digital evidence used in their cyber frauds.

Mehedi Imran Siddiqui, Additional Superintendent of Police and Intelligence & Media Officer for SRB-3, on Sunday, November 8, 2026. According to SRB-3, the investigation originated from a general diary and family complaint filed at Kaliakair Police Station in Gazipur, where a young man named Hridoy Ansari (25) was allegedly reported abducted en route to Mogbazar. Extortionists demanded a BDT 50,000 ransom, prompting the family to transfer BDT 40,000 via bKash and Nagad. When Hridoy remained untraced, the family sought elite law enforcement help.
Tracing digital financial trails, SRB-3 detained an accomplice near Jatrabari on October 28, eventually leading to Faisal and Al-Amin. During interrogations, the suspects confessed that they monitored Facebook missing person posts to acquire family phone numbers. Accomplice Al-Amin specialized in mimicking the voices of missing individuals and faking physical torture sounds over phone calls to emotionally manipulate families into paying ransoms. SRB-3 has urged citizens to immediately file general diaries for lost mobile SIM cards to prevent fraudsters from opening fraudulent MFS accounts.
