At least ten people were injured on Sunday afternoon when violent clashes and chase-counter-chase broke out between illegal street hawkers and law enforcement personnel during an eviction drive in the DEPZ area along the Nabinagar-Chandra highway under Ashulia in Savar. The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), accompanied by Ansar personnel and security staff, initiated the drive to clear unauthorized footpaths and highways.

In response, angry hawkers blocked the Chandra-bound lane using sticks and threw brickbats at security forces, causing severe traffic disruptions and widespread panic in the surrounding area. Hawkers alleged that Ansar members demanded large sums of extortion money and organized the eviction attack after they failed to pay, urging the Prime Minister and Home Minister to intervene.
