Speaking in Dhaka at a conference marking International Right to Information Day, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman highlighted that while the interim government failed to establish the commission, the present administration is following the same trajectory, risking an embarrassing precedent. During the session, TIB unveiled the findings of the 'Bangladesh Right to Information National Survey 2026', led by chief researcher Dr. Ananya Raihan. Surveying 3,200 citizens and analyzing 100 Information Commission decisions from 2018–2024, the report revealed that while 72.4% of citizens express a need for public data—primarily regarding employment, social safety nets, and government allocations—awareness of the RTI Act remains low at 10.5%. Furthermore, 86% of complaints lodged with the commission stemmed from appellate inaction, with 63% taking over 30 days to reach a hearing. Legal experts Barrister Sara Hossain of BLAST, EU Delegation First Counselor Kamila Partika, and Shaheen Anam of Manusher Jonno Foundation also spoke at the conference.
