Police carried out overnight drives across various areas under the police station on Saturday (September 5) night, apprehending the accused and bringing them to the station before sending them to court following legal procedures.
The arrestees include Bipul Hossain (25), son of Pear Ali from Dakshin Basudebpur area, and Naim (20), son of Ruhul Amin from Dharanda (Jolapara) area, both wanted under Hakimpur Police Station GR cases 213/24 and 113/26. Hakimpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Zakir Hossain stated that special operations remain underway alongside surveillance by the District Special Branch (DSB) under a zero-tolerance policy, guided by the directives of the District Superintendent of Police and the strict stance of the local Member of Parliament and Minister of Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs, Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, to keep the border upazila entirely drug-free. He added that an alert team led by him conducted overnight raids on Saturday to execute the arrests. When Sajjad Hossain and Naim Islam were produced before a mobile court for drug abuse, they admitted to their offenses, prompting Executive Magistrate and Upazila Nirbahi Officer George Mitra Chakma to sentence both to one month of simple imprisonment. Following due legal process, the arrestees were forwarded to prison through the court on Sunday afternoon.
