Withdrawal of Bond Facilities on Import of 10 to 30 Count Yarn: Mixed Reactions
The government has taken a major step to protect the domestic textile sector. Bond facilities for importing 10 to 30 count yarn have been completely withdrawn to safeguard local spinning mills. Textile sector entrepreneurs and business owners have welcomed this decision as a timely and courageous step by the government.
However, a contrasting picture has emerged in the Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sector. RMG entrepreneurs, the primary users of yarn, have termed the government's decision "suicidal." According to them, this will abnormally increase production costs for apparel manufacturers, making it difficult to survive in the international market. Representatives of the garment industry have strongly urged the government to reconsider or withdraw this decision immediately.
