Senior Joint Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, has stated that national progress will remain incomplete without the active participation of women in the country’s development.

He made the remarks on Wednesday (September 9) after paying homage at the graves of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, marking the 48th founding anniversary of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal.

Rizvi noted that female leaders and activists who remained active during the Awami League government's tenure faced various forms of persecution. However, despite numerous adversities and crises, party leadership has shown courage and patriotism in keeping the organization well-structured and properly guided.

Highlighting women's empowerment and educational advancement, Rizvi reiterated BNP's long-standing belief in empowering women, noting that during Begum Khaleda Zia's administration, female education was made free up to the higher secondary level. He mentioned that plans are being considered to extend tuition-free education for women up to the degree (bachelor’s) level, alongside initiatives such as introducing "Family Cards" to transfer financial and social empowerment directly into the hands of women.

Addressing the current economic and energy situation, Rizvi acknowledged that temporary complexities in the supply of oil and gas stem from a global crisis, adding that alternative strategies, including gas imports, are being undertaken to overcome the shortage. He assured that efforts are underway to maintain public transport operations and keep inflation within tolerable limits to ease public suffering.

Referring to a recent assault on actress Badhon, Rizvi issued a stern warning, condemning physical or mental abuse against women as an act of cowardice.

Female leaders from the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal and various affiliate organizations of the BNP were present at the event to offer floral tributes at the grave site.
