A 46-year-old bus helper named Fakir Alamgir died on Tuesday following a scuffle between two parties triggered by a trivial dispute between two women at the Sayedabad bus terminal area in the capital.

The deceased's family alleged that Alamgir collapsed onto the street after being punched in the chest by a youth named Shukur Ali. He was subsequently rushed to a local hospital, where attending doctors declared him dead.

The incident occurred around 9:00 AM on Tuesday (September 8) in front of the Bus Owners' Association office at the Sayedabad Bus Terminal.

According to the victim's son, Rabiul Awal, the family hails from Aliganj in Hajiganj Upazila, Chandpur, and currently resides in the Karatitola area of Sayedabad. His father worked as a bus helper and sold cold drinks from a van during the day, while his mother, Tuni Akhter, ran a small roadside khichuri stall in front of the Bus Owners' Association office.

Rabiul stated that an altercation broke out on Tuesday morning between his mother and another woman who was sweeping the area in front of the association office. As the argument escalated, the woman's son, Shukur Ali, arrived at the scene and engaged in a physical fight with Alamgir. Rabiul alleged that Shukur struck his father repeatedly on the chest, causing him to fall onto the road, where a piece of broken brick severely injured his head.

He was rescued in critical condition and taken to Mugda Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Antu De Prem of Jatrabari Police Station stated that an argument initially broke out between the khichuri seller and a betel nut vendor over a trivial matter, which later escalated into a brawl. During the clash, the man reportedly fell to the ground and died. Police are investigating the incident, and the body has been sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death as legal proceedings remain ongoing.
