Nation Building Unstoppable If Youth Leads the Charge, Says Prime Minister
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called upon the nation's youth to spearhead civic reform and national reconstruction, asserting that no force can obstruct Bangladesh's progress if its millions of young citizens unite behind a shared vision.
The Prime Minister made the remarks on Saturday morning (September 12) while addressing the inauguration of the Nationwide Dengue Prevention and Cleanliness Campaign 2026 at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Highlighting the structural strength of Bangladesh's youth networks, Prime Minister Rahman pointed out that the country possesses nearly 2.3 million Scouts, over 22,000 Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) volunteers, and a student population of roughly 40 million across educational institutions. "If such a massive force commits to rebuilding the nation, no one can hold us back," he said.
Referencing the political shifts driven by youth movements in August 2024, the Prime Minister emphasized that young people have already demonstrated their capacity to transform the nation's trajectory. He urged them to apply that same determination toward pressing civic issues, starting with a targeted three-month drive against the seasonal dengue outbreak.
"Aedes mosquitoes breed in stagnant water accumulated in discarded containers and debris," Rahman noted. "If we address these breeding grounds together, we can significantly reduce the threat. While we may not eradicate it entirely, we can achieve an 80 percent reduction through collective action."
He cautioned against individual negligence regarding public waste disposal, warning that unhygienic environments eventually breed diseases that impact families and communities alike. To combat this, the Prime Minister advocated for a weekly commitment: "It is not a difficult task. If each of us dedicates just one hour a week to cleaning our homes, schools, or workplaces, we will see rapid positive change."
Concluding his address, Prime Minister Rahman urged citizens to actively discourage littering in public spaces and reiterated his call to the youth to transition from initiating change to actively shaping the country's future structure and governance.
