Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal Activists Are Part of the Government, Says Ruhul Kabir Rizvi
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Acting Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), stated on Saturday that because the BNP is currently in power, party leaders and activists do not need to wait to become ministers or members of parliament to contribute, as every activist is inherently part of the government.
He emphasized that the primary responsibility of party members now is to ensure the success of the government's public welfare initiatives and effectively communicate those achievements to the general public.
Rizvi made the remarks at Naya Paltan in the capital prior to inaugurating a colorful rally organized to mark the 48th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, the women's wing of the BNP.
"Today, BNP is in power. What more do we have to ask for? You, I, all of us are part of this government. It is not necessary for every single individual to hold an official position," Rizvi noted, adding that party members can now move and speak freely—a stark contrast to past periods of political suppression.
Recalling the political harassment faced by Mohila Dal leadership under the previous Awami League administration, Rizvi highlighted the repeated imprisonments and interrogations endured by Mohila Dal President Afroza Abbas, General Secretary Sultana Ahmed, and other grassroots leaders. He pointed out that under the current BNP-led administration, Mohila Dal representatives hold seats in Parliament and cabinet positions, describing it as a collective achievement for the organization.
The BNP Acting Secretary General urged Mohila Dal members to familiarize themselves with government welfare programs—particularly those focusing on women's empowerment, social safety nets, and financial self-reliance—and bring them to the public's attention.
Referencing the government's flagship "Family Card" initiative, Rizvi described it as a milestone for empowering women from impoverished households. He stressed that sustainable female empowerment relies on quality education and financial independence, areas where the current administration has launched targeted programs.
Rizvi called upon the women's wing to transition their past street-level resilience into constructive governance support, actively advancing the women-centric policy agenda led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Following his address, Rizvi formally inaugurated the anniversary procession. Mohila Dal President Afroza Abbas, General Secretary Sultana Ahmed, and central executive members were present at the event.
