Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to address world leaders at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session, continuing a historic tradition established by former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, according to Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Abu Abdullah M. Saleh.

Speaking at a "Meet the Press" event organized by the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Thursday (September 17), the Press Secretary highlighted the international significance of the Prime Minister's address at the global forum.

"The Prime Minister's participation on the world stage is a crucial engagement not only for Bangladesh but also within the broader international context," Saleh stated.

Media Freedom, Accountability, and Fact-Checking

Addressing national media policy, Saleh reiterated the administration's support for press freedom while emphasizing professional accountability:

• Limits of Press Freedom: Affirmed that the current government supports full press freedom, clarifying that media freedom must not be misinterpreted as license for arbitrariness. He noted that determining the legal boundaries of press freedom lies strictly within the jurisdiction of the judiciary, rather than the government or the public.

• Call for In-House Fact-Checking: Urged media organizations to establish systematic in-house fact-checking mechanisms to combat rumors, disinformation, and false narratives in the digital age.

Economic Stability and Foreign Investment

Outlining national administrative and economic progress, the Press Secretary noted that the current government has successfully stabilized the country despite inherited administrative vulnerabilities and global conflict pressures.

He asserted that Bangladesh has mitigated internal and international risks, emerging as a secure and stable destination for foreign direct investment.
