Jamaat Secretary General Urges Administration and Parties Not to Obstruction 11-Party Alliance's Rangpur Long March
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has urged the government, administration, law enforcement agencies, political parties, and media to cooperate and refrain from creating obstacles during the 11-party alliance's upcoming Dhaka-to-Rangpur long march scheduled for Saturday, September 19.
Speaking at a press briefing following a meeting of top leaders of the 11-party alliance on Friday afternoon (September 18), Parwar emphasized that the program is entirely peaceful and democratic.
"We appeal to the government that no obstacles or hindrances be created against this disciplined, peaceful, and democratic political program," Parwar stated. Addressing participants, he urged alliance activists to exercise maximum patience and restraint in the face of any provocation to ensure the event's success.
Parwar extended advance apologies and expressed regret for any public inconvenience or traffic disruptions caused along the route by the massive convoy, which is expected to include over a thousand vehicles and thousands of attendees.
Event Itinerary and Key Demands
The long march will feature an eight-point charter of demands following the inclusion of northern regional priorities:
Inaugural Assembly: The program will commence at 7:00 AM on Saturday (September 19) at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka, with the vehicular procession setting off at 8:00 AM toward Rangpur via Tongi, Gazipur, Tangail, Sirajganj, Bogura, and Gaibandha.
Rallies along Route: Organizers have scheduled seven major public rallies and five roadside gatherings across seven strategic transit districts.
8-Point Charter of Demands: Building on the six demands raised during the previous Chattogram long march, the alliance added corruption, extortion, and illegal land grabbing. Following a top-level meeting at the residence of the Leader of the Opposition, the implementation of the Teesta Mega Plan was formally integrated as the eighth demand.
Teesta Mega Plan Appeal: Urged the government to resolve diplomatic and official hesitations and initiate immediate state steps to implement the comprehensive Teesta river management project to safeguard millions in northern Bangladesh.
