Former Cantonment OC Rakibul Hasan Summoned by DB Over Leaked Audio
Rakibul Hasan, the former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cantonment Police Station who was withdrawn following a viral social media audio leak, has been summoned for questioning by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
DMP Additional Commissioner (DB) Shafiqul Islam confirmed the development on Thursday night (September 17), stating that a three-member inquiry committee set up by the DMP initiated the questioning regarding the leaked recording.
"A three-member committee has been formed by the DMP to investigate the matter. The committee includes one member from the DB and two officers from DMP Headquarters. He will be interrogated regarding the contents of the viral audio recording," Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam noted.
Leaked Audio Contents and Allegations
The administrative action and subsequent interrogation follow the circulation of an audio clip attributed to former OC Rakibul Hasan on social media platforms:
Political Remarks: In the recorded conversation, a voice alleged to be Rakibul Hasan describes current street-level police forces as weak, claiming they would be unable to act if Sheikh Hasina returns in December.
Critique of Police Leadership: The speaker asserts that while senior police officials are leaning toward the BNP, field-level officers are not following that trajectory.
Bribery Allegations: The recording also contains statements alleging financial transactions and bribery in relation to internal police postings and transfers.
