Dengue Fatalities Reach 33 in a Week as Daily Admissions Hit 1,484

Bangladesh recorded five more dengue-related fatalities and 1,484 new hospital admissions across the country in the 24 hours leading up to Thursday morning (September 17). The latest casualties bring the total weekly death toll from the mosquito-borne viral disease to 33.

According to the regular bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the national death toll from dengue this year has risen to 176.

Month-wise data indicates a steep escalation during the monsoon season. September alone has recorded 79 deaths in the first 17 days, surpassing August's total of 43 fatalities. Earlier monthly fatalities stood at 36 in July, 13 in June, one in May, and two each in January and February.

Hospitalization and Divisional Distribution

A total of 58,400 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country so far this year:

  • 24-Hour Admissions: 1,484 new cases were reported nationwide between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning.

  • Recoveries: 1,513 patients were discharged from medical facilities over the past 24 hours, bringing total nationwide recoveries to 54,092.

  • Divisional Breakdown of New Cases:

    • Dhaka Division: 624 patients (highest single-region hospitalization)

    • Khulna Division: 252 patients

    • Barishal Division: 221 patients

    • Chattogram Division: 192 patients

    • Rajshahi Division: 102 patients

    • Mymensingh Division: 64 patients

    • Rangpur Division: 35 patients

    • Sylhet Division: 4 patients
