Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Secretary General and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister, Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, has stated that the country's education system was crippled and destroyed over the past 17 years, weakening the backbone of the nation.
He further remarked that this systematic destruction was engineered with the deliberate intent to keep Bangladesh inactive and left behind in the international competition of information technology and progress.
He made these remarks as the chief guest on Saturday afternoon (September 19) at the 'SSC Meritorious Students Reception-2026' organized by the South Keraniganj Thana BNP at the Keraniganj Women's Degree College ground.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, "Education is the backbone of a nation. However, over the past 17 years, it was turned into a plastic backbone. There were instances where students were made to pass under high-level directives without even taking exams or simply by writing out questions in their answer sheets. Artificially inflating marks or forcing passes does not benefit any individual or the nation."
Emphasizing the importance of quality education based on merit in the age of technology, he added that poor performance or lagging behind in university admission tests is not an isolated incident, but rather the direct consequence of toying with the entire education system. However, in the current context, genuine results are being awarded based on merit, which is vital for any nation.
Reaffirming BNP's commitment to the expansion of women's education, the party's acting secretary general said, "Education is the primary prerequisite for women's empowerment. Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia introduced free education for female students up to the intermediate level. Furthermore, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has announced that in the future, female students will not bear any educational expenses up to BA and Honours levels—it will be made completely free."
Highlighting the importance of responsible social and regional leadership, he termed the initiative of gathering and honoring meritorious students in South Keraniganj an "exemplary act" and thanked the organizers.
In her presidential address, Dhaka District BNP General Secretary, South Keraniganj Thana BNP President, and Member of Parliament Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury told the students, "Today's achievement is just the beginning of a new chapter in your lives. With honesty, responsibility, and patriotism, you must become the helmsmen of tomorrow's Bangladesh."
She added, "We want the students of the Dhaka-3 constituency to leave marks of their talent and brilliance not only within the country but also on the global stage, bringing honor to Keraniganj. Rising above politics, we want to build a safe and conducive learning environment in every educational institution of this area."
During the event, crests, mementos, and scholarship funds were handed over to students who achieved GPA-5 and Golden GPA-5 in the SSC examinations within the Dhaka-3 constituency.
Local leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organizations, representatives of civil society, teachers, meritorious students, and guardians were present at the reception ceremony.
