Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has expressed deep concern over the ongoing unrest in the country’s readymade garment (RMG) sector, demanding immediate government action to establish a living wage, expedite Wage Board proceedings, and cease law enforcement harassment against workers.
In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Shibir Central President Nurul Islam and Secretary General Sibgatullah noted that continuous labor demonstrations over the past fortnight across Dhaka, Savar, Mirpur, Gazipur, and Narayanganj have forced production shutdowns at at least 679 garment factories. Pointing to severe inflationary pressures, the student organization criticized the government for maintaining the RMG minimum monthly wage at ৳12,500 (set in 2023) while simultaneously initiating pay scale revisions for government employees, calling the disparity in handling worker grievances unjust.
