The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detained over 50 leaders and activists from outside the central office of Jatiyatabadi Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) near the GPO intersection in Gulistan, Dhaka, on suspicion of being affiliated with the banned Awami League.
The detentions took place around 2:30 PM on Saturday. A senior police official stated that the detainees were holding a secret meeting and preparing for a procession, and their backgrounds are currently being verified for further legal action.
Meanwhile, JSD Office Secretary Sajjad Hossain claimed that representatives from across the country had gathered for a scheduled meeting when BNP and Juba Dal activists attacked them, leaving them blockaded inside the office before police arrival. A viral video from the scene showed BNP and Juba Dal activists entering the JSD premises. Additionally, former Dhaka Union of Journalists President Abu Zafar Surya posted on Facebook around 4:00 PM, stating that he and several others were handcuffed and taken away by police while performing professional duties at the meeting, and that he was being held at Paltan Police Station.
