State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam stated that Dr. Zubaida Rahman, wife of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, will also receive a government 'Family Card' under the administration's signature social safety net initiative.
Speaking on Thursday (September 24, 2026) during a financial assistance distribution ceremony for flood victims in Banshkhali, Chattogram, the State Minister emphasized that the government is dedicated to serving all citizens. He outlined that four crore families across the country will gradually be brought under the Family Card program. He assured attendees that no middleman or bribery is required to obtain the cards, stating that even the Prime Minister's spouse will receive one as part of the BNP government's policy of universal coverage.
Addressing the recent flash floods in Banshkhali, Chandanaish, and Satkania, Mir Shahe Alam noted that the region had not experienced a disaster of this scale since the 1991 cyclone, causing significant distress to local residents and the administration. On behalf of the government, he offered an apology for any shortcomings in the initial emergency response while assuring continued relief and rehabilitation support. The event was attended by Member of Parliament Enamul Haq Enam, Chattogram Zila Parishad Chairman Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, and local administration officials.
