The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has approved four separate proposals to import a total of 155,000 tonnes of fertilizer from Canada, Russia, and Saudi Arabia under state-level and government-to-government (G2G) agreements, amounting to an estimated expenditure of BDT 982.61 crore.
The meeting, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury at the Secretariat on Wednesday (September 23, 2026), endorsed the Ministry of Agriculture's proposals to be executed by the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC). Under the approved terms, 80,000 tonnes of Muriate of Potash (MOP) will be imported from Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) in two lots for BDT 379.35 crore ($383.80 per tonne). Another 35,000 tonnes of MOP fertilizer will be procured from Russia's JSC Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodimpex) for BDT 165.90 crore ($383.80 per tonne). Additionally, 40,000 tonnes of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer will be imported from Saudi Arabia's Ma'aden at a cost of BDT 437.37 crore ($885 per tonne). All import expenditures will be financed through the government's allocated agricultural subsidy budget to maintain steady fertilizer stockpiles for the 2026–27 fiscal year.
