Four suspected drug peddlers, including a woman and two youths, have been arrested with 150 pieces of Yaba tablets and 2.5 kg of cannabis (ganja) during separate anti-narcotics raids conducted by the Dhaka District North Detective Branch (DB) of Police across Savar and Dhamrai.
The arrests and subsequent details were confirmed on Wednesday afternoon through an official press release issued by Dhaka District North DB Inspector Saidul Islam. Acting on directives from District Superintendent of Police Shamima Parveen, a DB team led by Inspector Saidul Islam launched operations spanning from Tuesday evening (September 15) through Wednesday dawn.
In the first raid conducted around 6:30 PM on Tuesday in the Baktarpur Bedepara area under Savar Model Police Station, police arrested a 50-year-old woman named Rokeya with 30 pieces of Yaba worth an estimated BDT 9,000. She is the widow of the late Hukumat Ali from the same area.
Shortly after, around 7:30 PM, a second raid in the Kayetpara area of Dhamrai Upazila netted 2.5 kg of cannabis valued at roughly BDT 7,5000, leading to the arrest of Monoranjan Rajbanshi (50), son of the late Narayan Rajbanshi from West Kayetpara. Police noted that he already faces a prior narcotics case.
Later that night at 9:50 PM, a third operation in the Salehpur area of Aminbazar under Savar Model Police Station led to the apprehension of two youths, Mir Tousif Ahmed (26) and Sheikh Tanvir (28), from whom 120 pieces of Yaba worth approximately BDT 66,000 were recovered.
DB Inspector Saidul Islam stated that formal cases under the Narcotics Control Act have been filed against all four accused at the respective police stations, and they were forwarded to court on Wednesday afternoon.
