Acting on direct complaints lodged by distressed family members, a mobile court in Mymensingh's Dhobaura Upazila sentenced two young men to varying terms of imprisonment and fines on Wednesday (September 16) over chronic drug addiction and substance abuse.
The mobile court was conducted by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Md. Mosharrof Hossain. According to court details, the convicts are Sirajul Islam, son of A. Khaleq from Charuapara, and Rakibul Hasan, son of Swapan Mia from Jangaliapara village.
Following formal appeals and grievances filed by the families of the addicted youths, administrative authorities verified the complaints and swiftly mobilized a mobile court operation. Magistrate Md. Mosharrof Hossain sentenced Sirajul Islam to 7 months of rigorous imprisonment alongside a fine of BDT 500, while Rakibul Hasan was sentenced to 6 months of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of BDT 1,000.
Local civil society members have praised the decisive administrative intervention, emphasizing that family-backed initiatives combined with judicial action can effectively curb local drug networks and rehabilitate vulnerable youth.
