The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 89,400 Yaba tablets hidden in an ingenious manner underneath a private car during a smugglng attempt on the Cox's Bazar Marine Drive road. A young man named Md. Erfan (30) was arrested in connection with the incident, while three of his accomplices managed to flee.
The operation was conducted in the early hours of Sunday (September 20) at the Rezukhal checkpost in the Pechardwip area under Khuniapalong union of Ramu upazila on the Marine Drive road. The drive was led by the Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB).
The detained Erfan is the son of the late Md. Abdul Samad from the Link Road area of Dakshin Muhuripara in Jhilongza union, Cox's Bazar Sadar upazila.
According to the BGB, the three fleeing suspects are Mohammad Kader (45) and Mohammad Kamal (40), both sons of the late Zahir Ahmed from Sabrang Sikdarpara in Teknaf, and Mohammad Munসুর (55), son of the late Ashraf Mia from Purba Goaliapalong in Khuniapalong, Ramu.
Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB) Commander Lt. Col. SM Khairul Alam stated that the search team at the Rezukhal checkpost intercepted a private car heading towards the Mini Bandarban road. Upon thorough inspection, 89,400 Yaba tablets skillfully concealed beneath the vehicle were recovered. Additionally, the private car used in drug trafficking and a smartphone were seized.
He informed that a case is being filed against the arrested Erfan and the three fugitives, and processes are underway to hand them over to the relevant police station along with the seized Yaba, the private car, and other evidence.
The BGB commander emphasized that alongside securing the borders, the BGB remains firmly committed to preventing drug trafficking and smuggling, and such anti-narcotics operations will continue in the future.
