The important road stretching from in front of the No. 4 Dholarhat Union Parishad to the No. 2 Akhanagar Barrister School in Ruhia upazila, Thakurgaon, has fallen into a state of severe disrepair due to a long-standing lack of maintenance, causing immense suffering to the public.

According to locals, large potholes and depressions have formed across various stretches of the paved road. In many places, the bitumen layer has worn away, leaving behind deep holes that make travel hazardous for both vehicles and pedestrians. During the monsoons, rainwater accumulates in these potholes, turning them into severe hazards. Furthermore, a major crater has developed right in the middle of a culvert close to the Akhanagar Barrister School, posing a high risk of major accidents at any moment, locals fear.

Local residents Shahin, Shahajan, and others noted that the road serves as a crucial communication link between two unions and is used daily by countless commuters. The prolonged neglect in repairing the road has continuously exacerbated public hardship, prompting urgent demands for the reconstruction of the road and the repair of the hazardous culvert section.

Commenting on the matter, Ruhia Upazila BNP President and former Dholarhat Union Chairman Abdul Jabbar stated that the proposal for the road's renovation has been submitted to the authorities, and he expects work to commence very soon.

LGED's Ruhia Upazila Engineer (In-Charge) Md. Mabud Hossain stated that the main estimate for the road has been forwarded to Dhaka, and repair work for both the road and the culvert will begin shortly upon receiving project approval.
