Locals, relatives, and classmates of the victim gathered in a massive human chain and protest rally in Pabna on Sunday (September 20), demanding a speedy trial and capital punishment for the perpetrators involved in the brutal murder of young Kamrunnahar Koli.
The demonstration began in the morning in front of the Pabna District Council office, followed by a spirited protest march that paraded through the court area and major surrounding roads. Participants vocally demanded the execution of the two arrested accused.
Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder: Mostafa Kamal (55), son of late Abdul Matin Pramanik of Kulunia village, and Yasin Ali (21), son of late Mohabbat Ali from Subornsara village in Belkuchi upazila, Sirajganj, who was residing as a tenant at Mostafa's house. Both have reportedly confessed to their crimes during interrogation.
According to police case details and confessions, ten-year-old Kamrunnahar Koli, daughter of Kamal Pramanik of Kulunia village, went missing on the evening of September 9. The accused lured her into the bedroom behind Mostafa's grocery store, where they violated her. Fearing exposure, they strangled her to death.
To conceal the crime, the perpetrators stuffed the body into a sack, tied two bricks to it, and submerged it in an abandoned pond covered with water hyacinths and bushes near the house. Seven days later, on Wednesday morning (September 16), police recovered Koli's body from the pond.
