Comilla District Police have unraveled the murder case of 13-year-old Ishiat Shahriar Apratim, the only son of Comilla University (CoU) teacher Dr. Nahida Begum, confirming that the teenager was beaten to death during a planned mugging to steal his iPhone.
Comilla Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Anisuzzaman disclosed the investigation findings during a press conference on Sunday afternoon (September 20). Four individuals—Saiful Islam Tuhin (19), Fahad, Kamrul, and Siam—have been detained in connection with the crime, with primary suspects confessing to their involvement.
According to police, suspect Saiful Islam Tuhin lured Apratim to an isolated forested area in the Lalmai Hills between 2:00 PM and 2:15 PM on September 18. When the suspects attempted to seize Apratim's iPhone between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM, he resisted, leading to a physical altercation where Fahad and Kamrul struck him repeatedly on the head with thick bamboo sticks.
Following confessions during interrogation, police recovered the stolen iPhone hidden under a mattress inside Tuhin's residence. SP Md. Anisuzzaman stated that three of the suspects have been formally arrested under the murder case, while Siam's involvement is under verification. Police plan to submit a charge sheet to the court swiftly to ensure a prompt trial.
