Locals of Sajanai village in Chatmohar upazila, Pabna, formed a human chain on a village road Thursday afternoon (September 17) to protest the alleged harassment of innocent villagers in a murder case and to demand the removal of their names from the chargesheet.

Speakers at the human chain included Abdul Alim, Abdul Aziz, Manik Mia, Kamrul Hasan Borsha, Shanta Khatun, and Khadiza Parveen. They stated that while the primary accused in the murder of Abdul Barek alias Baki—namely Rabi and his wife Reshma—have already been arrested, several individuals who were present at their respective workplaces during the incident, including Zakir, Matin, Mahmud, Uzzal, Awal, Mostoba, and Delowar, have been wrongfully implicated. Fearing police action, these innocent people have been forced to flee their homes, leaving their families in distress. Locals urged authorities to withdraw their names, halt the harassment, and ensure a fair investigation to apprehend the true culprits.

Chatmohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Oliur Rahman stated that the investigation is ongoing and anyone found involved through evidence will face arrest, emphasizing that police will not harass innocent individuals.

According to the case details, on August 29, victim Abdul Barek took his goat to a pond near his house, where neighbor Rabiul Islam Rabi objected, leading to an altercation. Rabi and his wife subsequently assaulted Barek, striking him on the head with wooden and bamboo bats. He was rushed to the Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on September 2 at 10:00 AM.

Following the incident, the victim's uncle Wahab Pramanik filed a murder case at Chatmohar Police Station against 10 individuals, including Rabi and Reshma. RAB arrested the primary accused couple on the night of September 11.
