Three individuals, including journalist Abdullah Al Mamun, Sajjad, and Md. Ashek, were brutally attacked by drug dealers in Harbang union of Chakaria upazila, Cox's Bazar, for protesting public drug trafficking. Sajjad sustained critical injuries in the incident, which occurred on Saturday (September 19) at the Harbang station area along the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway.

According to local sources, a syndicate had been running an illegal drug business in Harbang for a long time. With the cooperation of locals, Sajjad had raised protests and handed drug peddlers over to the police. Enraged by this, the criminals targeted Sajjad with local weapons with the intent to kill. When Mamun and Ashek rushed to save him, they were also targeted and assaulted by the gang.

Locals rescued the victims and rushed them to the Chakaria Upazila Health Complex. Due to his critical condition, Sajjad was given first aid and subsequently transferred to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital, while Mamun and Ashek remained under treatment at the local health complex.

Victims stated that a gang of 15 to 20 individuals, led by local drug peddlers Md. Belal, Kofil Uddin, and Shafiul Alam, carried out the premeditated attack with lethal weapons and sticks around 2:30 PM on Saturday. An official statement/complaint has already been lodged at the Chakaria Police Station.

Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arifur Rahman confirmed that a complaint has been received regarding the assault stemming from a stand against narcotics, and legal action will be taken following a thorough investigation.
