A divisional development coordination meeting was held in Rangpur, placing special emphasis on strict crime prevention and administrative coordination across the northern region. The meeting took place on Thursday noon (September 17) at the Divisional Headquarters Auditorium, presided over by Divisional Commissioner Shahidul Islam.
The meeting was addressed by Rangpur Range DIG Mohammad Abdul Mabud, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Muhammad Mahbubur Rashid, alongside Deputy Commissioners and senior government officials from all eight districts of the division.
Discussions centered on enhancing inter-departmental coordination, ensuring citizen services, protecting public property, preventing crime, and maintaining rigorous law enforcement. Key issues highlighted during the session included preventing illegal occupation of government properties and lands, stopping theft, vandalism, highway and roadside encroachments, extortion, road blockades, and enforcing traffic discipline at accident-prone locations.
The meeting also stressed halting illegal sand extraction from rivers, preventing sabotage and theft within power infrastructure, curbing illegal electricity connections, eliminating touts and middlemen from hospitals, preventing the theft of government medicines, stopping farmer harassment, fertilizer smuggling, and the sale of adulterated agricultural inputs. Furthermore, strict measures were discussed to protect fisheries, prevent illegal fishing, and ban the use of forbidden nets.
In addition to law enforcement, participants reviewed the implementation of government initiatives aimed at boosting agriculture, infrastructure, small and cottage industries, creating self-employment opportunities, and uplifting the living standards of marginalized communities across the eight northern districts.
