Carrying the slogan "If the youth are awake, drug consumption is no more," residents of six villages in Chatmohar, Pabna, jointly organized an anti-drug protest human chain.
The program was held on Sunday afternoon (September 20) at the intersection of Krishnapur, Aringail, and Mallikbain in Parsedanga union of the upazila. The human chain was organized to protest the threats made by drug kingpin Omar and his associates, with the ultimate goal of building a healthy society.
Presided over by Ajir Uddin Pramanik and conducted by Faisal Kabir, the human chain featured speeches by former Chairman of Parsedanga Union Parishad Rabiul Karim Tareq, General Secretary of the 6-Village Joint Graveyard and Hafidia Madrasa & Orphanage Moktar Hossain Khan, Joint General Secretary Maulana Abdus Salam, Madrasa Muhtamim Hasibul Islam Shanto, member Mohammad Ali Faruki, Ward No. 2 UP Member Monzil Hossain, and journalists Shahin Rahman, Russel, Masum Rana, Kawsar, and Mansuk Alam, among others.
Speakers stated that Omar Ali is the largest drug dealer in Chatmohar, operating a steady trade of Yaba and cannabis from his residence for years, which has led to a surge in drug addicts in the area. Despite being a listed drug trader with the police, local administration has allegedly failed to take effective action. They noted that children, teenagers, youths, and even the elderly are falling prey to drug addiction, leading to a rise in theft and social chaos. Warning Omar Ali to abandon drug peddling and return to normal life or face expulsion from the area, speakers urged community members to safeguard their children's futures by forming anti-drug committees in every ward and village.
Prior to the human chain, over 500 residents from the villages of Mohela, Mallikpur, Krishnapur, Aringail, Mallikbain, and Barokona brought out a protest procession from in front of Mallikbain Dakhil Madrasa, which marched through the main roads of the area.
