Two snatchers have been arrested along with their motorcycle in connection with the tragic death of 55-year-old government primary school headteacher Ronjina Parveen, who fell from a rickshaw after being targeted by snatchers near the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Along with the recovered stolen items, law enforcement also seized Yaba tablets from the suspects' possession.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) Shafiqul Islam confirmed the development to media personnel on Wednesday (September 16).
He stated that the suspects were apprehended during a raid in an area of the capital. Further details regarding the arrest are scheduled to be disclosed during a press conference at the DMP Media Centre at noon today.
Previously, on August 30, a formal case was filed at the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station by the family of the deceased teacher.
The incident occurred on the morning of August 29 at around 6:30 AM, when snatchers riding a motorcycle pulled aggressively at Ronjina Parveen's handbag, causing her to tumble violently from a moving rickshaw. She sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared her dead.
Victim Ronjina Parveen served as the headteacher of the Bagbari Balika Government Primary School in Bogura and had traveled to Dhaka to visit a hospital in Farmgate when the tragedy struck.
