Outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen paid a farewell courtesy call on Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kaiser Kamal MP at his parliament office on Tuesday (September 22), where both sides emphasized strengthening bilateral relations and development cooperation.
During the meeting, Deputy Speaker Kaiser Kamal highlighted the long-standing, multi-dimensional friendship between Bangladesh and China, recalling his recent visit to Yunnan Province. He sought continued Chinese support in strengthening democratic processes, technology, healthcare, and infrastructure development in Bangladesh. Ambassador Yao Wen noted that diplomatic ties were laid during former President Ziaur Rahman's visit to China in 1980 and expressed optimism that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's recent trip to China would expand multi-sectoral cooperation through initiatives like the Bangladesh-China Parliamentary Friendship Group. Discussions also covered parliamentary exchanges, the expansion and modernization of Mongla Port, and the Teesta River management project.
