Bangladesh is observing the historic National Revolution and Solidarity Day today, Saturday, November 7, 2026, with due solemnity and patriotic fervor. The day marks the historic 1975 Sepoy-People's Uprising (সিপাহি-জনতার বিপ্লব), when soldiers and citizens took to the streets together to thwart anti-sovereignty plots, securing the nation’s independence, democracy, and national sovereignty.
On this day in 1975, the soldiers and public freed President Ziaur Rahman (Bir Uttam)—proclaimer of independence and founder of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)—from captivity in the cantonment, entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the nation out of political anarchy toward stability, multi-party democracy, and Bangladeshi nationalism.

President Mirza Fakhrul urged all citizens, regardless of party affiliations, to unite under the spirit of November 7 to build a democratic, equitable, humane, and secure Bangladesh. Prime Minister Tariq Rahman emphasized that while one should not remain obsessively consumed by history, failing to learn from historical lessons while paving the path for the future would be a grave historical error.
A general public holiday is being observed across the country, with the national flag hoisted at government, semi-government, and private buildings as well as Bangladeshi diplomatic missions abroad. Additionally, the BNP is conducting a week-long 7-day program alongside events by various socio-political organizations.
