The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a weather alert forecasting temporary rain and squall-line thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds across 12 regions, including Dhaka and Chattogram, through Wednesday night (September 23, 2026).
According to an inland river port warning issued by meteorologist Md. Tariful Newaz Kabir, gusty or squally winds blowing from the south-east or east at speeds ranging between 45 and 60 km/h are expected to sweep over Dhaka, Kustia, Faridpur, Jashore, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, and Sylhet. In response to the potential hazardous conditions, river ports across these 12 regions have been instructed to hoist Cautionary Signal No. 1.
Furthermore, the BMD's morning bulletin indicates that light to moderate rain or thunder showers with gusty winds will likely occur over most places in Rajshahi, Khulna, and Barishal; many areas in Rangpur, Dhaka, and Chattogram; and isolated places in Mymensingh and Sylhet. Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall is expected in isolated pockets nationwide, bringing relief from mild heatwaves currently affecting Rangpur, Dinajpur, and Syedpur while lowering day and night temperatures by 1–2°C across the country.
