A group of former Islami Bank employees blocked the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway on Monday (September 21) demanding the reinstatement of over 10,000 dismissed officers and workers, while protesting a recent attack on demonstrators at the Secretariat.
The protest commenced around 1:10 PM in front of the Patiya Model Mosque in Chittagong, completely halting traffic and creating long vehicular queues on both sides of the highway. Demonstrators demanded that all terminated staff be restored to their original positions without harassment or discrimination, warning of tougher programs if their demands are not addressed promptly.
A team from Patiya Police Station arrived at the scene around 1:30 PM to manage the situation and negotiate with the protesters. Following police assurances that necessary steps would be taken regarding their demands, the demonstrators cleared the highway at approximately 2:30 PM, restoring normal traffic flow after nearly an hour and a half of disruption.
