DNCC Administrator Accuses Awami League Elements of Instigating Chaos Under Cover of Mirpur RMG Protests
DNCC Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan speaking to media during his spot inspection of Mirpur-11.

Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan has accused a specific political party and vested quarter of exploiting the readymade garment (RMG) worker demonstrations to create chaos and instability in the capital. Inspecting the clash-affected areas of Mirpur on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the Administrator questioned the active presence of Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League members within the labor movement.

Shafiqul Islam Khan stated that identified portfolio-holding political leaders are infiltrating the protests to engineer a political crisis aimed at facilitating the return of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in December. He warned that law enforcement agencies have already identified key agitators and will bring them under legal custody, emphasizing that no form of street anarchy will be tolerated.

The statement coincided with the third consecutive day of violent confrontations around the Mirpur-11 bus stand, where an estimated 7,000 to 8,000 agitators occupied major roads. When police initiated operations to clear the thoroughfares, clashes erupted, prompting law enforcement to deploy tear gas shells and sound grenades to disperse the crowd.
