Bangladesh Railway has constituted a five-member investigation committee to probe the arson attack on a coach of the Haor Express stationed at Platform No. 2 of Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka.
Director (Public Relations) of Bangladesh Railway Anisur Rahman confirmed the development to media outlets on Sunday night (September 20).
The inquiry committee is headed by the Divisional Transportation Officer (Dhaka Division) of Bangladesh Railway. The remaining four members comprise the Commandant of the Railway Security Force (RNB) for the Dhaka Zone, the Divisional Electrical Engineer, the Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Carriage), and the Additional Superintendent of Railway Police.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 PM on Sunday when fire broke out inside a coach of the stationary Haor Express. Fire Service and Civil Defence units dispatched to the scene reached the platform at 9:46 PM and successfully brought the blaze under control by 9:52 PM.
ABM Kamruzzaman, Divisional Railway Manager (Dhaka), stated that one coach of the Haor Express was completely burnt in the fire. He added that the rapid spread of the flames strongly indicates the intentional use of chemical accelerants such as petrol or gunpowder.
