Prime Minister Tarique Rahman departed Dhaka for New York early Monday (September 21) to attend the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), marking his debut appearance at the premier global forum.
Accompanied by his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman and a high-level delegation, the Prime Minister boarded a Turkish Airlines flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 6:05 AM. Prior to departure, he was seen off by Cabinet members and senior government officials, including LGRD Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, BNP Acting Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam Moni, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, and Principal Secretary to the PM ABM Abdus Sattar.
Following a layover in Istanbul, the delegation will land at John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport in New York, where Prime Minister Rahman will be received by Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the UN Irene Khan and Ambassador to the US Tareq Md. Ariful Islam.
During his multi-day itinerary in New York, Prime Minister Rahman is scheduled to deliver his address to the UN General Assembly on September 24. Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam confirmed that the Prime Minister's schedule includes high-level engagements on global inequality, climate action, sea-level rise, maternal and neonatal health, and a dedicated side event advocating for the sustainable repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingya refugees to Myanmar.
On the sidelines of the UNGA, the Prime Minister is set to hold bilateral meetings with world leaders—including the Crown Prince of Kuwait and the Prime Ministers of Croatia, Bhutan, Thailand, Pakistan, and Haiti—as well as top executives from Meta, Wall Street entities, and global business organizations.
