The Ministry of Labour and Employment brought forward the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Minimum Wage Board for garment workers by four hours today, Wednesday, November 4, 2026. Originally scheduled for 3:00 PM, the meeting convened at 11:00 AM at the Ministry of Labour office, under the chairmanship of Senior District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Ashfakur Rahman.
According to the revised notification issued under Section 139 of the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006, the emergency schedule shift was necessitated by rising worker unrest and security incidents across key manufacturing hubs. The six-member board—comprising Chairman Sheikh Ashfakur Rahman, owner representatives Asif Ayub and ABM Shamsuddin, worker representatives Anwar Hossain and Babul Akhter, and independent member Professor Mosleh Uddin Ahmed of Dhaka University—focused its agenda on formal introductions and setting the framework for minimum wage recommendations.
