State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obayed stated that a long-term resolution to the Rohingya crisis is impossible to achieve through traditional diplomatic efforts alone.

Speaking at a dialogue session at the CIRDAP Auditorium in Dhaka on Sunday, November 8, 2026, the State Minister revealed that given the evolving political and territorial landscape in Rakhine State, Bangladesh is maintaining both formal and informal communications with local controlling forces—specifically the Arakan Army—alongside Myanmar authorities. Concurrently, Bangladesh is intensifying diplomatic outreach to engage key regional stakeholders, including China, India, and ASEAN member states.

Shama Obayed emphasized that the Rohingya situation has evolved from a humanitarian crisis into a complex national security issue involving drug trafficking, human smuggling, and inter-camp armed violence impacting Cox's Bazar. To address this, the government has adopted a "Whole-of-Government" approach managed by a National Strategy Formulation Committee comprising the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Home Affairs, and Social Welfare. Addressing a population of nearly 1.3 million Rohingya refugees, she called on the international community and global media to maintain high-priority focus on establishing a clear roadmap for voluntary, safe, and dignified repatriation.
