Cultivation of pointed gourd (potol) is steadily increasing in Nilphamari. Due to low costs, relatively good yields, and high demand in the market, farmers in the district are showing a growing interest in growing the crop. In the current season, pointed gourd has been cultivated on approximately 205 hectares of land across various areas of the district, particularly in unions like Khokshabari, Gorgram, and Lakshmichap of Sadar upazila.

Visiting various fields, farmers were seen busy taking care of plants, weeding, and harvesting the crop on trellis structures. While the cost is relatively low, some farmers expressed concerns regarding diseases, fertilizers, seeds, and labour costs, alongside complaints of not receiving expected support and advice from agricultural officials when needed. Farmer Mojnu Mia mentioned that good yields bring profit, but timely advice and cooperation during disease outbreaks could boost production further. Another farmer, Abul Kalam, said he cultivates it every year due to high demand, but reduced production costs and regular guidance from the agriculture department would encourage farmers even more.

Addressing the farmers' complaints, the agriculture department stated that regular advice and necessary support are being provided at the field level regarding modern technology usage, disease control, and proper crop management. Humayra Mondal, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, stated that regular consultations are being provided to farmers for vegetable cultivation, and field-level officials remain in touch with them to boost production. Farmers hope that increased government assistance and expanded field-level guidance will further extend cultivation and benefit local growers.
