Education Will Be the Bedrock of Future Bangladesh, Says State Minister Habib
State Minister for Railways, Road Transport and Bridges Habibur Rashid Habib emphasized that education will serve as the primary foundation for building a future Bangladesh, calling on students to go beyond mere academic grades and develop practical skills and moral values.
Addressing a reception for meritorious students at Manda Haider Ali School and College on Saturday morning (September 12), the State Minister urged the youth to prepare themselves to lead the country on the global stage.
"You are the future of Bangladesh. We want to see the nation of tomorrow through your eyes," Habib said. "Your preparation must not be confined to achieving a GPA-5 alone. You must develop yourselves through religious discipline, social values, sports, literature, and cultural activities alongside hard work and dedication."
Outlining the government's stance on educational reform, the State Minister stressed a shift away from certificate-oriented learning toward market-oriented skill development. "The core purpose of education is not just acquiring certificates, but gaining practical capacity, skills, and social progress. Education must prepare you for employment, foster self-reliance, and enable you to adapt to a changing world," he stated.
Habib highlighted that the administration under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is committed to building a modern, high-quality education system. He noted that the current budget allocates 2% of GDP to the education sector—the highest in the country's history—with plans to progressively increase it to 5% during the government's tenure.
To support this transition, the government has launched initiatives to equip schools with modern laboratories, multimedia classrooms, school feeding programs, and educational scholarships. Additional measures include standardized exam monitoring, teacher recruitment and training, and streamling retirement benefits for MPO-listed teachers.
Concluding his address, Habib reiterated the government's slogan, "Work for the Country, Bangladesh First," assuring students that the honors received at the ceremony serve as recognition of their merit, dedication, and potential to shape a self-reliant nation.
